Sarah Borges and Broken Singles: News

Volume 2 of the SXSW diary, Nashville to Austin, pt 1. - March 14, 2008

It took us a while to drive all the way to Austin after leaving Nashville; for those of you who have done it, there ain't much to see.

Rob's been hard at work on these video diaries, they serve the dual purpose of passing the time while shooting, and letting our Boston homepeople see our faces. They're also a chronicle of our daily lives.

We're at the South by Southwest festival now, and we'll keep the video blogs going. Stay tuned for the next volume.

3/4-3/6 N. Carolina to Atlanta and back - March 9, 2008

Hey all. Rob here. Yes you know me. I’m the guy behind the drums. So
where are we here in this trip. We had a nice day off at our pal Chick’s
place in Charlotte. Did some laundry, ate some Bbq at the Bbq King, caught up
on a lot of logistical junk and had a relaxed, fun show at the Evening Muse. Non
SBBS highlight of the night was seeing the band Bryan Scary and the Shredding
Tears who played the late show there. Mind blowing stuff. They take elements
of Billy the Mountain and maybe some Mr. Bungle and push it even further.
Amazing.
The next morning we were off to Atlanta to play The Earl. Tag Team
opened. Really cool kinda punky kinda garagey stuff. It was great meeting
Matt, an old Bostonian, and talking about all the clubs there that no longer
exist. As usual, it was great to see old friends and make some new ones. (Hope
you didn’t get fired Kari)
Now we're headed back to Black Mountain NC to play the Town Pump.
Road observation: when stopping to get gas and go to the bathroom,
without fail, the next exit always has better stuff than the exit you stop
at.

Just another beautiful NC day. - March 2, 2008

Binky here again...
Ahh. We wake to a beautiful day Mar. 2,spring not too far away now. We finally can leave our jackets in the van and soak up some sun. Stop back in to the Ashland for a little breakfast. The morning bagels are delish and the staff is so cool. Now we need to stop at Auto Zone for a quick windshield wiper change. Sarah challenges Rob and I to see who can change them the fastest. She assures us of a great prize. I win this round. Can’t wait to claim my riches. Now we are ready for our trip to Raleigh NC to play the Berkeley Café.

Although this is our 6th time in town, it’s our first show at the Berkeley. Also on the show is the Eilen Jewell Band, we’re happy to have them with us again. Marianne Taylor is promoting the show and as always makes the bands a great dinner that is always a road fave. The Berkeley is a great loud rock club with a rich blues history. The crowd is filled the a lot of old friends and new faces as well. Eilen & co. play another fantastic set. The more I see ‘em the more I love the songs. They do a great version of Loretta Lynn’s “Fist City” so you know they mean business. We get to visit with people after the show, which always fun. And for a Sunday night we had a great crowd. Thanks to all that came out to the show.

After saying our good byes to Eilen and band out on the sidewalk we head to our friend Mike V’s house to end the night with some music videos and beer. Life is so good. Well we wake up to another beautiful day in NC. And we’re off to Charlotte NC where we have the day off and time to visit with our friend Chick, who always makes Charlotte a blast. We are looking forward to our 2nd time to the Evening Muse. Hope to see you there. ‘Til next time –Love SBBS

Virginia Homecoming - March 1, 2008

In the morning it’s time to head to Ashland VA for our first time at Ashland Coffee & Tea. The Ashland is a good hang coffee shop in the front and music venue in the back. Since VA is one of my home states we are happy to have my Dad, step mom, sister, Uncle Jack and assorted friends there to cheer us on. All in all a great night, lots of great folks at the show. George and Kay have a cool thing going there. If you’re in the area check it out. xo-Binky

Leap Day - February 29, 2008

*I've decided it's high time the boys in the band let you know what their life on tour is all about, so you'll be seeing them on these pages from time to time --SB*

Hello all-This is Binky (bass). Time for the SBBS x-press to ride again after a short stop at home to record some songs we are on the road again. The first stop is Ocean City MD, where we stop in to WOCM to do some live songs on air. Cool station in a great location. DJ Batman was our host, and he said having us come to play was the most fun he had since judging the best body on the beach contest. Wow! (guess the best body of SBBS was a gimmie). We said our goodbyes and headed to Easton MD for tonight’s show. After a nice ride through the Md. countryside we arrive at the historic Avalon Theater and meet up with the Eilen Jewell Band who is also on the bill. The theater is beautiful and the staff is great. We all had dinner and traded stories aided by some fine refreshments provided by Johnny Sciascia from Eilen’s band.

They played a great set. So much fun, great band, cool people. Our set was a lot of fun and we got to meet a lot of nice people hanging around after the show. Then it was off to The Tidewater Inn for a little after party with Eilen and the band. After our in-room get together proved to be a little much for the other guests at the inn someone suggested that we may be more comfortable downstairs to the conference room. We agreed and had our party sitting around a 30 ft. conference table --that made the party very official. After some hours of fun we said goodnight, we will be with them again on Sunday in Raleigh NC but for now it’s goodbye. Leap day is fun because it doesn’t really count, so you can do what ever you want. It’s like a free day. Well we made is count this time.

Back in the van. - February 28, 2008

We're en route to Maryland for the start of what we're calling the 'No Snow' tour '08. Seriously. We found every blizzard in America on the last tour. My footwear of choice is now LL Bean. Prepared for every emergency.

We're headed south now and hoping for some sun. We'll end up in Austin at South by Southwest at some point soon, and that's always fun - part band vacation, part 4 shows in three days (check the shows page). We always get to see friends we miss too.

Nothing much to report yet, the first show of this leg of tour is tomorrow at the Avalon Theater in Easton, MD. Our hometown pals Eilen Jewell and her band will be with us for two shows, so we're excited about that. Looking forward to it all.

Scranton, PA - February 21, 2008

We're on Interstate 81, going from Pittsburgh to Woodstock, NY. I mentioned in my last diary entry that I'm a big Office fan, so drummer Rob had the great idea to stop and take a picture of the Scranton sign. I know this seems mundane, but there is really nothing else to do on driving days in the van (besides harass each other) so we're making it an event.

We played last night in Pittsburgh, and I guess there was a lunar eclipse while we're onstage. I've never seen one, and I'm bummed that no one mentioned it last night, when I could have done something about it. Everyone's all about it today, so I guess I just missed the boat on that one.

Much thanks to Mark, who tried valiantly to find me some George Dickel whiskey. I love that the Dickel is getting to be a thing, because I am so very fond of it, and there's none to be had in Boston. Thanks also to Melissa and Teresa and everyone at WYEP. I had a ball playing guest dj, and all their good listeners came out to the show.

This tour has been plagued by bad weather, which I guess has been a good distraction from the driving and the not-so-fun parts of tour. It's reassuring that people come out to shows, even in blizzards. I know the music industry is in flux right now, but I guess it wouldn't be so bad if the 100 or so of us who still buy records convened in a dark and dirty club on a Wedensday every so often to watch a live band. As long as that lives on, I feel ok about things.

14 degrees - February 15, 2008

We're in Milawaukee today, at the beautiful Pabst Theater. It's really a magnificent place, and we're happy to be sharing a bill with Carrie Rodriguez. What we're not happy about is the 14 degree Milwaukee temperature, especially when it's 44 whole degrees in Boston. I'm sure for those of you in the more temperate climes 44 doesn't sound like much, but it is, trust me. It's the difference between full foot freezing and just one toe.

Enough about the weather. I'm just saying.

We played last night in Chicago, Valentine's Day night. We had lots of lovely couples on date night, and we're glad they shared it with us. We tried out a new song, as promised, called 'Me and Your Ghost'. It went off pretty well, and I'll be darned if we wont try it here tonight.

Looking forward to spending time with friends here in Milwaukee, as is always the case in every city we have them in, and I'm still looking to try cheese curds, the Wisconsin delicacy. Someone please let me know how they are. I'm such a huge cheese fan that I don't want to be disappointed.

Off to soundcheck now. This dressing room is beautiful. They have a fruit platter. Sometimes all we get is mold on the walls. More of these please.
SB

Day 1 of a new tour - February 14, 2008

The band left Boston yesterday in the snow and freezing rain for a two-legged tour that will take us to Wisconsin, Texas and everything in between. We're in the van en route to Chicago, where our first show is tonight. It's Valentine's Day, so most everyone here is missing someone at home, but luckily we've got cell phones, email and flower deliveries.

FitzGerald's tonight, a club we've played a bunch before. Looking forward to seeing some friends, and also to the amazing hot and sour soup at the Asian restaurant next door to the club. We have some new songs on the table, ones that we laid the groundwork for in practices last week, so we're going to utilize our soundcheck time to work them out and then put them in the set somewhere on these tours. We'll be demo-ing songs when we get back to Boston for a couple of days in a couple of weeks (yup, that's a weird sentence), and we can't wait. Then it's back on the road to Texas and South by Southwest, margaritas and every band in the world in one place. The best part is that by the time we get home at the end of March, it's possible that it could be somewhat spring-like. Or it could just rain Biblicly, as it did two years ago, after which my basement filled with water and Rob's drums nearly floated into the driveway.

I'm currently obsessed with the Office, the American tv show. (I know there's a big debate about which is better, the American or the British version, but I haven't seen the British one yet, so I'm not engaging in that conversation). I spent roughly 3 hours in the Red Roof Inn last night trying to stream the Season 3 finale online. It didn't work. Or, it worked up to The Most Crucial Moment and then it quit. So I feel a bit bummed about that today. Rob tells me that we'll be driving through Scranton next week, and I'm hoping to find some answers there.

Happy Valentine's Day everyone. We hope you have someone to squeeze if you want someone, and if you don't, we hope you have a high tolerance for the super-annoying and tough-to-take commercial onslaught that comes along with this sweet holiday.

It's been a while, so lots of news! - January 24, 2008

Sorry I've so lax in updating the tour diary. You guys know how it is, you get into the holiday crazies, and then the post-holiday lazies, and then all of a sudden it's January 24!

We had a quick run of shows right before Christmas (Arlington VA, taping of a new XM radio show, Baltimore, and Philadelphia). It put us in a holiday frame of mind, seeing lots of festive folks and decorations, but also made us eager to get back home, which we did on Christmas Eve eve.

After a nice little break it was back to work the day after New Year's, making the first ever SBBS music video. 'Stop and Think it Over' will very soon be seen in video form! For now I've posted a slideshow on our home page of photos from the video shoot.

We also have a lot of tour dates for February and March planned, including a trip back to Texas, so while you're at it, check out the 'Shows' page too.

We just finished up a great weekend of TWO sold-out shows at the Lizard Lounge in Cambridge, MA, at which we premiered the video, and were treated to some great perfromance by our friends Blueheels (who came all the way from Madison, WI for the event), as well as Danielle Miraglia and the Teenage Prayers.

Like I said, keep checking back here for the finished version of the video, and for my part I promise (like I always do) to keep up this page more regularly. (really!)

End of tour recap. - November 19, 2007

We're in the van, on I-70 East, heading from Colorado Springs to Boston. It's the first time we've been headed east in 3 weeks, and I get a little excited feeling in my stomach when I think about going home. We're in Kansas City, MO now, and it'll be another 22 hours or so before we're done. Back in time for turkey though, I promised my family.

Last night was the Thirsty Parrot in Colorado Springs, with Jason Isbell from the Drive-By Truckers (thanks to all at KRCC for having us!) Really good ending to an overall great tour -- big stage, loud sound, fun crowd, happy band. It's a nice thought to have in our minds on the long highway home.

The night before was Kansas City, our second time at Knuckleheads. Our friends Gary and Joann came from St. Louis, they made it lots of fun. We seem to have fallen into a post-rehearsal dinner party for a wedding that was happening at the club, hopefully our songs about failed relationships and depressing love didn't put a damper on things:)

Omaha and Lincoln Nebraska were the shows prior to that. If I'm ever in doubt that anyone reads these tour diairies, I was set straight in Omaha. After mentioning my new appreciation for George Dickel whiskey in these pages, I was presented with a bottle at the show by Darryl and Nancy. Thank you! Omaha was one of the best shows of the first Diamonds in the Dark tour, and it was even better this time. Promoter Dean had us over for dinner on our day off after the show (again, we meet so many great people!). He brews beer for a living (go Nebraska Brewing Company!), we loved the taste-testing aspect of his job.

Lincoln was another fun time. As a lifelong Massachusetts-ian I had no idea about the wonders of Nebraska. In addition to the shows we lovd the thrift stores of NE. New show dresses were scored (I'm a sucker for vintage dresses. They make you look good even on bad days.) The boys lucked out too. SBBS is definitely better dressed than when we started this road trip 11/07.

Happy Thanksgiving all.

What the BS-ers do on their day off. - November 12, 2007

Yep, that's right, we're BS-ers. Broken Singles, natch. We're off today in Des Moines, Iowa, and we're in a Red Roof Inn (our fave as far as motels go), having just eaten Taco Bell (I'd never had it before this week, and I must say, it's not half bad), watching Monday Night Football (I'm not actually watching Monday Night Football, the men are. I'm sewing and giving myself facials. I'm more of a baseball gal.)

We've just come off some excellent shows, and this day of complete and utter laziness is well deserved in our humble opinion.
We played last night in Madison, WI, with our friends Blueheels. They're a great band who we played with our last time in town, and they'll be joining us in Boston in January for some shows.

Saturday Night was a benefit in Hudsonville, MI for a super organization called to Music to Benefit Music, who are helping to raise funds for public school music education. www.mtbm.org It was such a fun night, and Bill, who put together the event, as well as everyone else who donated their time for the night treated us so wonderfully. It was a night that made us happy to be a part of it.

Tomorrow we'll return to Omaha and then off to Lincoln, NE. Both of these cities were among our best of the first DITD tour, so we can't wait. Now off to the fourth, quarter, down, whatever the call it...SB

Kindness exists. - November 10, 2007

One of the things that makes our life as a band better is the kindness of people we meet on the road. Which isn't to say that we don't have a pretty cool life to begin with, don't get me wrong, but still...
Last night we played at Grounds for Thought in Bowling Green, OH. It's a bookstore and coffee place run by Kelly and Laura Wicks. Upon arrival we found food, drinks, our favorite records playing on a turntable on the stage (Kelly said he brought an X record from home just for the occasion), as well as gift certificates for book shopping. It was a great show, we met so many new nice people, Rowan, Kelly and Laura's 9 year old daughter and her friend Jessica helped us out with dance moves, Jess, a frequent Grounds for Thought patron, hooked me up with a bunch of kitty books (meow!). It was, all told, a special night. We felt loved, and we loved back. Please check out this place if you're in the area. In the era of corporate chains and sameness, this place is what life should be like. www.groundsforthought.com

I 90 stretches... - November 8, 2007

from one end of our beautiful country to the other, and I swear we've driven every possible inch of it. We're currently in Indiana, en route to Cleveland, OH, for a radio show at WJCU 88.7FM. Me and Binky will be doing our schtick at 5pm, so listen in, or listen online (www.wjcu.org) if you're so inclined.

Last night was Chicago, FitzGerald's, and we had lots of repeat customers. It snowed while we played, and stopeed when we stopped. Terry Anderson and his Olympic Ass-Kicking Team opened up, they were badass, and even had a song about our new favorite whiskey, George Dickel. Amazing. We'd never heard of the stuff and now it's everywhere.

We played on Mountain Stage radio on Sunday, with John Doe, Chuck Prophet, Zapa Mama and Luke Temple. The show will air nationally at different times, so check www.mountainstage.org to find out when/where in your area.
We made some new friends, and it was great for us to be a part of such a cool program.

Anyway, back to I-90. It starts in Boston, methinks, (we call it the Mass Pike), and you could drive it all the way here to Indiana or across the rest of the country. There's even a sign in our home state that tells you when you're at the highest elevation on I-90 until South Dakota. I think most people who pass that sign in MA are pretty amused, thinking to themselves that they probably never will see the South Dakota part. But SBBS drove it, and we were pretty amused when we passed the companion sign in South Dakota (God love Ford vans).

We're playing at the Beachland ballroom in Cleveland tonight, with the Olympic Ass-Kicking Team again. We started a tour at this club a while back, and the thing I remember most is that they serve deep-fried peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. And it's a nice rock-y bar to play in. All we need now is some Dickel...

Back in the saddle. - November 5, 2007

Nashville was great, we played the Americana conference, saw a lot of our old friends. Our Halloween night show was extra special as Binky and I dressed as a bride and groom (he as the bride), and John Doe surprised us onstage during 'Come Back to Me'. Somehow I think we wished we could have met John while not in drag, but at least it was memorable.
Unfortunately I got some stupid illness (damn germs!) that caused us to cancel our Louisville, KY show, and we are so sorry about it. SBBS has never missed a show, and hopefully it won't ever happen again. To our friends in Louisville we will re-schedule ASAP.
We played on Mountain Stage in Charleston, WV yesterday. It was a great bill, SBBS, Chuck Prophet, John Doe, Luke Temple and Zap Mama. It will be broadcast nationally, and you can find out where in your area on their website (http://www.mountainstage.org).
A couple of days off now, and then on to Chicago. Will post pics of our travels very soon.

waking up at howard johnson's - October 30, 2007

Today is Tuesday, and we're in Roanoke, VA, on our way to Nashville for the Americana Music Conference. Rob, Binky and I woke up today in a HoJo to find that winter has officially arrived. It's f'ing cold! Binky neglected to bring appropriate attire, so we're hoping to find him some mittens along the way (any knitters out there, take note:))

Mike and Jeannie the businesswoman extraordinaire will meet us in Nashville, and we'll play a special Halloween show at Grimey's Basement (and boy do we have some good costumes!). We love seeing all of our band friends at the Americana conference, so we can't wait. Check back here to find out what craziness ensues.
Onward Ho(Jo)!

Back in the 'hood again. - October 23, 2007

This Friday SBBS will play at Johnny D's in my adopted hometown of Somerville, MA. We haven't been there since our record release show in June, and we're excited. As everyone probably knows, I'm a big Boston Red Sox fan (Binky and Rob are more the football type, and Mike's impartial), so I'm very glad that there isn't a game on Friday. We played in a certain southern city a week or so ago, during the Red Sox/Indians series, and I asked the soundman to give me the score updates through the monitors at the front of the stage. Not that I wasn't very happy to be playing the show! It's just that I'll bet I'm able to do a better job when I can rest assured that my team is winning.

We're taking off on Monday to head down to Nashville (a place we always love) for the Americana Music Conference. These kind of things are great, because you know that you'll get to see all of your friends who are typically (like us) on tour the rest of the time. Kind of a musicians' working retreat, if you will. We'll be playing at 11pm on Halloween at the Basement at Grimey's, and we may don a costume or two! Then we're on tour for the rest of November, and I'll be back just in time to eat my Grandma Phyllis's wonderful Thanksgiving turkey. That's if we don't get caught in snow or some other crazy weather, Our last show is in Colorado, and we hear they've been getting hit pretty hard with the winter storms, to say the least. Meanwhile, here in Boston, it was 80 degrees today. Oh global warming. Somewhere baby seals are crying.

re-visit and meet anew - October 9, 2007

We're in the van right now headed to a few of our favorite cities in America for the weekend - Charlotte, Greenville, SC, Raleigh and Atlanta.

Charlotte and Greenville are new to us, but Raleigh has been one of our favorite haunts for a good long time, and Atlanta marked the last show of our much-beloved tour with Big Sandy and his Fly-Rite Boys tour of October '06, so there will always be a special place in our heart for that special city.
We'll play again with Shooter Jennings and his boys in Greenville, so that will be a treat, and Charlotte finds us in the company of friends who live there, so all is well.

This is a quick trip for us, then back home to Boston for a couple of shows before we head back out again for November. Keep checking the tour page, as November shows are being added every week.

We'll come to see each and every one of you in your hometown sooner or later!

Best, SB

A very successful weekend. - September 26, 2007

It's fun to be back in New England, especially because it's fall, and very beautiful. We've been holed up a bit, working on new songs, playing shows. This past weekend started off with Cafe 9 in New Haven, CT. We love this place. Paul, the wonderful guy who keeps bringing us back, treats bands like gold, and we had a real nice crowd there. We also debuted a new song, 'Show You How', which will probably be making appearances in most upcoming shows.

Saturday night was our first-ever headlining show at Northampton MA's Iron Horse Music Hall. We had flyered the heck out of the city a few days prior (old-school style), and the Iron Horse folks had too, plus we played on WRSI (Northampton) on Saturday morning (thanks Jim Olsen!), and as a result, we had a great turnout and such a fun time.

Sunday evening found us at a benefit in Somerville, MA for Groundwork Somerville. They're a great orgnization, check 'em out at www.groundworksomerville.org, and it was lovely playing in a park under fairy lights. Binky and Rob were a little sad to miss their Sunday football (they are huge fans), but they were able to catch some of the game after the show.

This weekend we're off to Worcester, MA (it's a veritable New England tour!) to Cafe Fantastique. Check out the Calendar section for details.

Wisconsin and Michigan and Illinois too. - September 12, 2007

Back today into real life after 6 days on the road (yup, just like the song). Shows in Milwaukee and Madison, Chicago, and then some radio business in Michigan.

Milwaukee was first on the list at the Grain Excange. It really did used to be the Grain Exchange, complete with a cavernous beautiful hall and stained glass aplenty. The show was a listener appreciation party for the v. cool local public station WUWM. They treated us great, and I had the pleasure of meeting some of the nicest folks while selling records out front after the show. Sometimes that's a highlight of the night (the talking, not the selling), because it seems like everyone has an interesting story of how they ended up there at the show. Lord knows we do.

Madison was Friday night, the day after, at Cafe Montmartre, the venue whose name none of us could pronounce. Expecting something wine and cheese-like based on the French-ness of the name, we instead found a cool little bar, where Tag and everyone else hosted a fun Friday night rock show. They did have crepes though. Local band the Blueheels opened and they were gosh darn great. Seriously. You can see/listen at http://www.myspace.com/blueheelsrocknroll .
In true Friday night fashion, we came, we saw, we danced, we played, then we stumbled home to motel living. Blueheels, if you read this, please come to Boston!

Saturday night, FitzGerald's, Chicago. We've played this place before, and it's the best. The inside makes me think of an Irish social hall. Not that I'm Irish or all that social, but still. The Iguanas were on the bill, and we danced. Drummer Rob danced. It was great. We had lots of repeat customers at the show, and Chicago is fast becoming an SBBS stronghold methinks. We'll come back soon.

Sunday was a day of rest, but also one of the first days of NFL football on tv. Rob and Binky were holed up in a Red Roof Inn in Ann Arbor, MI (our destination for the next day), with beer, pizza, and a whole lot of testosterone. Mike visited with his brother who lives in town, as did Jeannie, our do-everything awesomely band-tour manager extraordinaire. It was a treat to have her on this trip (another female, thank God). I whiled away the hours reading celebrity chef books (Gordon Ramsay, Anthony Bourdain). I'm obsessed.

And Monday we taped a radio show and then we were off on the 15-plus hour drive home. Moving in a vehicle for that long will make you batty. Binky and I became entrenched in a game we made up involving naming all songs with the word 'lover' in the title or lyrics of the song. You know, 'Part-time Lover', 'Something in the way she moves, attracts me like no other lover', all that jazz. Post 'em on the guestbook if you got 'em, we're curious.

And now we're home. New songs are in the works, so we'll hole up for some rehearsal time. And coming up in October, we'll tour the Eastern seaboard, one of our fave haunts, so keep checking the website for details.

As always, thanks you guys, for making what seems like an insurmountable task (playing to everyone, everywhere, all of the time), more fun and more of an adventure than anyone should have.

Three B's - August 13, 2007

We had a hometown welcome back show on Thursday with Fountains of Wayne at a show sponsored by 92.9 WBOS in Boston's Copley Square. It was great to see our friends again, and Binky, who's a huge FOW fan, was psyched to get to see them play live, as we all were.

Then we were off to Arlington, VA, for a show at Iota. I had sent an email before we left home to folks on our D.C. mailing list (because Arlington's the next town over), but I didn't realize that our Baltimore fans would come out in full force to the show too. I think I thought Baltimore was a little farther away:) So a big shout out to all who came out from Baltimore and everywhere else, especially because I neglected to mention the AMAZING show we had in Baltimore as the last show of the Diamonds on the Road tour, sponsored by WTMD, who we owe a big thanks to. We were a little fried going into week 7 of the tour, sorry! That's B number one.

B number two took place at the Turning Point Cafe in Piermont, NY, which was our home on Saturday night. Our most unusual showgoer was Bjork, who happened to be in the area (I don't think she was there to see us in particular, maybe she was just out to find some live music?) But boy were we surprised. She's very glamorous, and we were all a bit shy about talking to her. So there's number two.

And finally, number three, we played yesterday in Fall River, MA, as part of their Celebrate America festival. The Iguanas were also on the bill, and they were fantastic. We're loooking forward to sharing the stage with them again in September at FitzGerald's in Chicago. Anyway, the festival took place at historic Battleship Cove, and we got to see a 21 gun salute during our set. It was majestic, and I'm glad I got to witness it. So there's three.

Baltimore, Bjork, and Battleships. Excellent.

Home in one piece - August 6, 2007

We returned home from our tour this past Monday, and went right back to Boulder, Colorado for the annual Triple A Radio Summit. I had the pleasure of joining fellow MA girl Lori McKenna onstage for a song during her set, and we had a little Boston reunion with the guys in her band. We also played our own set (it was inside a tractor trailer, which sounds weird, but actually works out ok. It's the 2nd tractor trailer show we've played in a week, strangely enough). I think we did a great job, if the audience's dancing is any indicator.

We learned a lot as a band on this tour; playing every night will do that. We had some great opportunities, and hopefully laid the groundwork for our next tour. Lawna the van is still in one piece, albeit with 10,000 plus more miles on her. We're in pretty good shape too, after having lived on top of each other for 7 weeks. I'm thankful every day for the men in my band, they make an insurmountable task seem possible.

Our World Cafe Live interview and performance aired on August 1. We're proud of it, and you can hear it by clicking on the link on our front page.

This past Saturday, on our way to the airport coming home from Colorado we heard 'The Day We Met' on the radio, in the car, for the first time, all together. There's a special type of giggle that escapes your mouth when that happens.

We're off to Arlington, VA, and Piermont, NY this weekend, as well as two hometown Boston shows. I promise to be more diligent in my diary updates from now on-- I got a little off track during the tour, mainly because we were running around so much. But now, in the comfort of my own kitchen, with my cat Willie trying to eat bugs through the screen door, I should be able to do better.
